Team Party will be Wednesday 3-11

Hawks over Bulldogs

This slightly intimidating group of boys completed their undefeated region season Tuesday with convincing win over Marsteller. It makes back to back regional championships for the varsity boys.
Champs 2020
All 12 played significant minutes and 11 scored. Julian Rivera led the way with 14 points. Phoenix Shahateet had 10 and Artem Hurtovenko chipped in with 8.
My favorite part of the game was when Ryan Keenan, our one player who did not yet score, gave up the ball with a minute left when he easily could have kept it and scored. That selfless play wrapped up our dominant and awesome season. Next guy up, balanced scoring, versatility, and always hustling play. A great group of boys to coach. A total pleasure.

Hawks over Mustangs----- Back to back regional champs

Above is a picture of actors portraying my boys as they completed their 14 point victory over Reagan. That's me in the suit..Younger and slender. Good acting. Convincing.
The Hawks led from tip to buzzer. The game was always closer than it looked until the last few minutes.
Phoenix Shahateet dominated verse the undersized Mustangs. He had a season high 18 points and 10 rebounds. He had an impressive 4 assists as well. Finding open cutters as he got double teamed.
Julian Rivera had another nice game. 7 points ,4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals. Isaiah Vick and Ryan Keenan were their usual steady selves handling the ball flawlessly. Neither had a single turnover. Ryan had 4 assists and Isaiah had 4 steals. Both scored as well. Jaden Teh always brings his A-game verse Reagan with 7 points 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Artem HurOvenko played big and would not be outworked for a possession or a post . He had a smooth 8 points with 5 boards.
Everyone again played.
Our last game is Tuesday verse Marsteller. See you there!

Hawks over the Eagles

The Hawks had to play the team that gave us the tightest game. The question is can we play our best against our best opponent?
The answer is an emphatic YES we did.
The boys won by 17. All 12 played again.
Leading the charge again was Julian Rivera with 9 points, 8 assists (season high), and 5 steals. Phoenix Shahateet, who was sick the last game verse Bull Run, came up big as well with 15 points (12 in the fist half) and 8 rebounds. Jaden Teh also filled the stat sheet with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.  Artem Hurtavenko again was big with 11 points and 5 boards.  Ryan Keenan also scored and had 4 sweet assists. Rounding out our scoring were Owen Potts, Isaiah Vick, and Zacky Safadi.
We host Reagan Thursday to take sole claim to the regional title.

Hawks over Cougars

Congratulations to the Hawks Varsity boys on what was there most complete game of the year in a win over Manassas Park. As you would think with that leading sentence, everyone played well and contributed. Leading the scoring was Julian Rivera was 13 and Jaden Teh with 10. Julian continued his steal barrage with 7 more. Top rebounder was Farris Salih with 10. The most proud statistic is we had 6 players with multiple assists. Very unselfish ball.
Big time home game Monday over second place Bull Run where a win would clinch a piece of the regional title.

Hawks over the Bulldogs

Your Hawks traveled down Linton Hall Road to Marsteller to play our 5th and final away game of the season.
The boys played their most complete and impressive game to date. When a team plays 4 quarters of basketball with only 4 turnovers is impressive at any level. Kudos to Julian and Ryan our primary ball handlers.
Leading the way this game was Phoenix Shahateet with 16 points and 7 rebounds.  Our lucky number was 7 as Isaiah Vick, Jaden Teh, Ryan Keenan, and Julian Rivera all scored 7 (****authors note--- let the record show Julian really scored 6, but work with me here).  Domingo Meade and Artem Hurtovenko also scored.  Julian and Jaden each had 7 steals (actually 4 each but again you know).

Hawks over Sabres

The road show continued as we visited Stonewall middle school and took on an improved Sabres team.
All 12 players played significant minutes and contributed to our 4th win in a row. 11 players scored. Impressive!!
Leading the way in points were Phoenix Shahateet (8) and Big Zacky Safadi (7).
Crashing down low to lead us in rebounds were Nico Vega and Farris Salih with 8 each. Ryan Keenan had a sweet no look touch pass for one of his team leading 4 assists. Julian Rivera had an impressive 5 steals in limited action.
We travel to Marsteller Tuesday for our last away game.

Hawks over Mustangs

A sweet congratulations goes out to your Varsity Hawks on their win at undefeated Reagan.
Our top 2 scorers, top rebounders, assists distributors, and steal guys were victims of the flu leaving us with just 10 guys (2 of which just had the flu).

Coach told the guys before the game you can either-
1-Feel sorry and get them next time. or
2-Step up and fill the missing shoes.

Step up they did.
Ryan Keenan scored 9 points but more importantly took care of the ball most of the game.  Just one turnover despite intense defense the whole game. Jaden Teh promised to step up, and he sure did. He had 16 mostly acrobatic points with steady defense. Also playing big was Phoenix Shahateet who had 7 first half points (9 total) to help us pull away early. He snagged 10 rebounds as well. Isaiah Vick did well in everything . He played a nice game down low, he played a good guard and even ran a strong point guard to help  rest Ryan. He had 5 rebounds and 3 assists with 6 points (silencing the crowd when they were banging on the bleachers in the 4th quarter). In the 4th quarter, when Reagan cut it to 3 points, Owen Potts sank 2 free throws to slay the Reagan momentum.
The boys continue their world travels with a game at Stonewall Thursday.

Hawks over the Panthers

A hearty congratulations goes out to your Hawks on their win over a very good Parkside team at a packed house here at the Nest. The boys played, by far, their best game of the year.Everyone played significant minutes and with confidence. Minimal panic turnovers.
Filling the stat sheet was a regular to this--Julian Rivera. 17 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, 7 steals and an impressive 1 turnover. The reason it  is so impressive is Julian is our point guard and he handles the ball. Parkside pressed full court from tip to buzzer. Super impressive.
Also filling it up was Jaden Teh. 10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 steals. Isaiah Vick played his strongest game with 9 points and many calm possessions.  Also scoring for us were Zacki Safadi, Artem Hurtevenko, Phoenix Shahateet, Owen Potts, and Domingo Meade.

Hawks over Eagles
Your Hawks traveled to Bull Run to take on strong Eagle team. After squandering a 9 point lead in the first half, the boys switched back into gear and won by 5.
Leading the way was amazing play by Julian Rivera (7 points, 10 steals [yes, t-e-n], and 5 assists) and Artem Hurtovenko (18 points and 10 rebounds). Nobody on the court was more aggressive than those two. We needed it.
Ryan Keenan scored a cool 9 and took care of the ball nicely during the Eagle press.

Mustangs squeak by our Hawks.

Your Hawks traveled to Metz to play a super solid team. This is the only team to beat these boys last year (as JV). Well, despite a valiant effort, we came up 2 baskets short.
Stepping up big time was Julian Rivera who filled the stat sheet with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Owen Potts played big with 6 rebounds and 6 points. Ryan Keenan also had 5 assists along with 6 points. Jaden Teh (6) and Artem Hurtovenko (7) had multiple baskets for us.  Isaiah Vick added points as well.
All players played and we look forward to getting better for Tuesdays regional game verse Bull Run.
